Welcome To The Island of Hope - 2004 Relay For Life

Associates, directors and their families represented Uwharrie
Capital Corp, Bank
of Stanly and Strategic
Investment Group as corporate and team sponsors of this
year's American Cancer Society's Relay for Life community
event. The event continues to grow each year and raise money
for funding research in hopes of finding a cure for cancer.

This year's Stanly County
Relay for Life theme was "Hope - Our Reason to Relay" and
the event was held at Albemarle High School where 20-30 teams
set up camp around the school's track. The event raised an
estimated $65,000, for cancer research, with participants
walking from 6pm to 9am. At least one team member would be
walking, on track, throughout the night and in to Saturday
morning.
"This has truly been a TEAM effort
and is a big step towards making a difference in finding
a cure for cancer. If you gave a contribution, if you walked
a lap, if you took a picture, if you participated in any
way - Thank You." said Susan Gibson, Uwharrie Capital
Corp Human Resources Director.

new case rates and death rates from cancer have declined

North and South Carolina.
